Pilot Plant For The Investigation of Deposit Formation in Air Preheaters


The retrofitting of additional air preheaters for condensate preheating in lignite-fired 3×300 MW power plant units required experimental investigations of the formation of deposits under critical operating conditions. The mechanisms of deposit formation and the cleaning behavior of the deposits were simulated in experiments.

Under the assumption of similarity criteria, heat and power engineering downscaled the air preheater to pilot plant size. The pre-heated condensate air preheater was installed in the 500 kW pulverized coal combustion plant of the Institute of Combustion and Power Plant Technology (IFK). In experimental investigations, those boundary parameters leading to critical operating conditions and the mechanisms of deposit formation could be worked out.
